Din Chan (b. 1989, Singapore) is an interactive installation artist and art therapist. He graduated with a MA in Art Therapy (2021) as a recipient of the Red Pencil Scholarship, and a BA (Hons) in Fine Arts, both from LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore. Using technology as his medium, his work engages not just the viewers’ gaze, but also their senses and the physicality of their bodies. Through such interactivity, viewers are invited to be collaborators in the art-making process, creating a multi-faceted and inclusive vision together. Din is also a STEAM educator.

Triggered by darkness, a light will fall and rise within a netted structure, casting a tessellation of two-toned shadows in the space. Presented as part of a trio of work at Wayang Bayang.

bulan invites contemplation on what the far side of the moon looks like. An interactive artwork, viewers are free to run their fingers gently through the sand to shape their version of the moon.

Made up of LED strips and a sliding panel for viewers to control the amount of light, orang multiplies one’s shadow, casting manipulatable layers of hues on the wall. Presented as part of a trio of work at Wayang Bayang.

Shower Thoughts (2021)

A contactless interactive artwork, the viewer is able to listen in to the artist's private thoughts, recorded in the shower, when they are near the glass panel. Shower Thoughts is an expression of the artist's vulnerability, in response to comments that he needs to open up.

A digital artwork visualising the emotion of shame with AI-generated imageries, made corporeal as a virtual sculpture in a 360° environment.

Eye Tracker Paint (2019)

Eye Tracker Paint was conceptualised after interacting with children with cerebral palsy, in the hopes of contributing to inclusive play. The interactive installation creates streaks of dots across the screen in response to the viewer's eye movements, enabling one to paint with just their eyes.

A reflective installation on the exploration of and interactions with the Malay community in Thailand.

Body of Light (2018)

In collaboration with Prumsodun Ok

Body of Light explores dance and light painting as vessels of human memory. With the movement-sensitive light technologies, dancer Prumsodun Ok's gestures, which are responses to his memories, paint streaks of lights in the space.

Musical Table (2018)

What seems to be a nondescript table starts to emit sounds when viewers hover their hands over it. The distance of the hands from the table modulates the pitch and tempo of the sounds.

Using drawing as a means of sound-making, the musical pencil transforms the drawing process into a musical experience, with surprising possibilities.
